This event is just one of many Specialty Appliance is a part of each year and it was great to have so many incredible designers all in one room. The event welcomed and familiarized new and prospective members with ASID over a light breakfast, coffee and conversation. 5 ELECTRICAL TIPS FOR HIGH END APPLIANCE INSTALLATION IN YOUR HOME.

1. Be sure your electrician wires a dedicated circuit for you high end refrigerator. Most high end refrigerators require a dedicated circuit. If they are on a share a circuit with other receptacles it may trip the breaker or void the warranty.

2. Be certain your electrician runs 4-wire circuits going to any 240 volt loads. This will ensure a better ground path to prevent power surges.

3. Your electrician should be provided with specs for all high end appliances for rough-in. This will help him/her to ensure that the right size circuits are ran and the required outlets are placed properly.

4. Refrigerators and freezers should not be installed using GFI protected outlets; if the GFI were to trip your appliances would be without power and your food could spoil. Appliances that are fastened in place such as microwaves, dish washers and garbage disposals should not use a GFI protected outlets. Typically, the placement of required outlets for appliances makes it difficult to reset a GFI breaker should it become necessary. If GFI protection is a must try to use a GFI breaker instead of a GFI outlet. *NOTE* According to the national electrical code, all above counter receptacles in a kitchen must be GFI protected.

5. If your electrician is going to hardwire your high end appliances using existing wiring he/ she must be certain the correct connections are used. This is even more important if you have existing aluminum wiring. There are several issues inherent with older aluminum wiring such as aluminum oxidation, dissimilar metal corrosion and “creep.” For more information on aluminum wiring please see the best Denver electrician, SJO Electric’s, blog addressing these questions.
