Kitchen Aid is starting to roll out their exciting new line of refrigerators with dual evaporators. What good are dual evaporators you ask? Well – the evaporator is the part of the refrigerator that gets cold and then provides the chilled air to cool the interior of the refrigerator. In a traditional refrigerator there is one evaporator that provides freezing dry air to the freezer side of the refrigerator. If the fresh food side of the refrigerator needs cold air a vent opens and air is brought over from the freezer and dumped into the fresh food compartment. This air comes with all the odors it has absorbed from the freezer as well as being way too cold for the needs of the fresh food compartment. Anyone experience frozen vegetables in the bottom crisper? This single evaporator system is the reason why. By creating a system with two evaporators Kitchen Aid is able to completely separate the freezer compartment from the fresh food compartment. No odor transfer and no freezing air turning your vegetables into ice cubes because each side of the refrigerator has a custom cooling system. The air going into the different sides of the refrigerator can also be kept more humid in the fresh food side helping to maximize produce, meat and dairy freshness.
